Fighting City Hall Not Always Required

As small business owners, we occasionally find ourselves fighting city hall. And it is indeed a fight, often a losing one, when attempting to right a wrong or get an ordinance changed. Nonetheless, a few weeks ago I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it doesn't necessarily take a battle, a petition drive, or even a threatened lawsuit to bring about wanted changes.
For a number of months I have been doing some research on large, exterior, electronic LED signs. By almost all reports, including a couple of one-on-one interviews with fellow business owners, I have determined that these signs can be very effective for marketing new services and increasing business. It was my intention to investigate even further, and that included checking into costs.
Wow, was I shocked! The cost of a new, single-color (red LED) 9'x2' 8" sign, incorporating new panels for the printing business as well as an adjoining tenant, and incorporated into a new base will cost approximately $26,000 plus tax. The cost of a full, multi-color sign of the same design will run $32,000. Overall dimensions of the entire sign, including the LED portion, are approximately 12' high by 9' wide.
