The soldiers of the 257th Medical Company (Dental Services), Ft. Bragg, North Carolina, safely returned from deployment earlier this month after a successful accomplishment of their mission in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Their journey began with a tearful goodbye on a cool fall morning in September (2006) at the green ramp of Pope Air Force Base, North Carolina. The day had finally arrived after much anticipation and months of preparing their vehicles, equipment, supplies and spending countless hours conducting training. The unit First Sergeant, SFC Omar Mascarenas, explained the initial feeling of deploying as "one of excitement" and a separate feeling of the "fear of the unknown." He elaborated on his thoughts by stating that there was "excitement" to exercise the training they had received in order to accomplish the mission...
