AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T has announced a five-year $1.3 million contract with Republic Services Inc., one of the nation's leading providers of solid-waste collection, transfer and disposal services. AT&T will provide Republic Services with Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) ring service, ensuring state-of-the-art, self-healing network architecture that protects critical applications from being disrupted or degraded in quality because of loss of signal or transmission impairment.

The SONET ring system will provide alternate circuits for communications in the event of a network disruption...
