I have a special spot in my heart for veterans who have diligently served our country. They are our true heroes. For that reason, I chose the Tampa VA nursing home to do my volunteer work." Those were the words of Philip Nodhturft III in a March/April 2000 DAV Magazine article, "Brightening Veterans' Lives at Tampa VA Nursing Home." It was an impressive statement from an impressive young man, who then was a 16-year-old honor student and regular volunteer at the Nursing Home Care Unit of the James A.
