Description
You're flying an ILS to Run way 7 at Podunk Municipal (KPOD), but the AWOS says winds 240 at 15 gust 20 with a ceiling 500 feet above circling minimums. You're below radar coverage, and the Tower was decommissioned during the Carter administration, so you're on your own.
You break out well above the circling mins and circle to Runway 25. As you descend, you see a herd of wild pigs on the runway. (Podunk has some of the best wild pig hunting in Northern California, don't you know.) You buzz them a few times but they just run in circles on the runway--stupid pork.
And the alternate airport with a warm Motel 6 and a Denny's Restaurant is looking better as the fuel gauges are pointing far to the left. You have been trained (and the AIM has always said) to fly the missed for the approach you initially flew. So you climb back up to circling mini mums over the runway after that last pig scattering attempt on Runway 25.
