DOREEN MENDE Since her first exhibition in September 2004 (a solo show of the Slovenian conceptual artist Julius Koller), gallerist Isabella Bortolozzi has shown primarily conceptual or site-specific work that is also often new and unknown. With a program of curated exhibitions, Bortolozzi takes a critical stance in relation to the sales-oriented presentation of art in Berlin. The group exhibition The Idea of North, with three Canadian artists, was curated at Bortolozzi's invitation by Belgian curator Dieter Roelstraete, the director of exhibitions at the MuHKA in Antwerp. The Idea of North presented two young artists previously unknown in Germany: Allison Hrabluik and Zin Taylor, both born in 1977. The third artist, Ron Terada, from Vancouver, born in 1969, is known primarily for his site-specific works that question the exhibition context.
