Greece is experiencing strong expansion with first quarter 2007 results enhancing optimism for the rest of the year. Citing the Greek Finance Minister as its source, the Greek news aggregator Phantis (Athens) posted the following on its website on April 13, 2007: "The Greek economy performed well in the first quarter of 2007, continuing its dynamic growth and fiscal adjustment."
The annualized rate of growth for the first quarter 2007 was approximately 4.0 percent. "Domestic demand remained strong and retail sales volume was up," said Phantis.
