Description

Women are still a long way from getting equal treatment in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Sameena Nazir discusses the results of the Freedom House study on the status of women's rights in 16 countries and one territory in the MENA region in her paper "Challenging Inequality: Obstacles and Opportunities towards Women's Rights in the Middle East and North Africa." The survey, which was released on May 2005, rates countries on a numerical scale, offering the first such ranking of the status of women in the region.
