LONDON, November 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Pop Idol - The Official Video Game is the bookies' favourite for this Christmas, beating the Harry Potter game to the number one spot.

The main runners in the race to the top of the Christmas computer and video games charts were announced today by Ladbrokes and ELSPA (Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers Association).

Pop Idol - The Official Video Game gives everyone the chance to compete in a virtual singing competition, complete with a computer-generated Simon Cowell every bit as cutting as his real life counterpart on the ITV1 show, co-produced by Thames Television and 19TV. Players enjoy the full Pop Idol experience controlling the singing voice of a contestant through rhythm-action music and Dance Mat gameplay.

Published by UK games company Codemasters, the game launched last week is available for the most popular gaming systems - PlayStation 2, PC CD-ROM and Game Boy Advance.
