Description: Spectra Energy Corp. was incorporated in Delaware in July 2006 and, in January 2007, Duke Energy Corp. completed its spin-off during a reorganization. Through its subsidiaries and affiliates, Spectra provides transportation and storage of natural gas in four reportable segments: U.S. transmission, distribution, Western Canada transmission and processing, and field services. The U.S. transmission business transports and stores natural gas in the northeastern and southeastern United States and the maritime provinces in Canada through Texas Eastern Transmission LP, Algonquin Gas Transmission LLC, East Tennessee Natural Gas LLC, Maritimes and Northeast Pipeline LLC, and Maritimes and Northeast Pipeline Limited Partnership, which began operations in September 2008. Distribution in Canada is through Union Gas Limited, which owns pipeline, storage and compression facilities. Western Canada transmission and processing business consists of the BC Pipeline and BC Field Services operations, which transport processed natural gas from northeast British Columbia to lower British Columbia, Alberta and the U.S. Pacific northwest. As of December 2008, the company's U.S. pipeline systems had 13,800 miles of transmission pipelines. Union Gas' system in Canada had 37,000 miles of distribution main and service pipelines. In addition, the BC Pipeline had 1,800 miles of transmission pipeline, as well as 18 mainline compressor stations.
