Description: Advanced Medical Optics Inc. was incorporated in Delaware in October 2001 as a subsidiary of Allergan Inc. Allergan spun-off the company to its stockholders on June 29, 2002 and Advanced Medical Optics became an independent public company. Headquartered in Santa Ana, Calif., Advanced Medical Optics develops, manufactures and markets medical devices for the eye. The company markets and sells products through three major strategic business units (SBUs): cataract, refractive and eye care. The cataract SBU focuses on the four key products required for cataract surgery: monofocal intraocular lenses, implantation systems, phacoemulsification systems and viscoelastics. The refractive SBU markets excimer and femtosecond laser systems, related treatment cards and disposable patient interfaces, related diagnostic devices and refractive implants. The eye care SBU provides a full range of contact lens care products for use with a wide range of contact lenses. The eye care products include single-bottle, multi-purpose cleaning and disinfecting solutions, hydrogen peroxide-based disinfecting solutions, daily cleaners, enzymatic cleaners and contact lens rewetting drops. In 2008, Advanced Medical Optics also introduced eye drops designed to treat the symptoms of dry eye.
