Description: Cimarex Energy Co. is an independent oil and gas exploration and production company formed in February 2002 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tulsa-based Helmerich and Payne Inc. On September 30, 2002, Cimarex was completely spun off and simultaneously merged with Denver-based Key Production Company Inc. On October 1, 2002, the Delaware corporation began trading on the New York Stock Exchange. On June 7, 2005, Cimarex Energy acquired Dallas-based Magnum Hunter Resources Inc. Since 2005, the company has principally focused on exploration and development drilling and has funded these investments with cash flow provided by operating activities. The company's operations are mainly located in Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Kansas, Louisiana and Wyoming.
