This mission is carried out in four markets, automotive, construction, industrial, and general industry. The company began in 1917 as Carlisle Tire and Rubber Company. In the 1960's, the company began producing other rubber products, such as, automotive accessories, baby food jar sealant rings, and aerospace, and electronic products. In 1986, the company restructured, moved to Syracuse, New York, and opened three successful operations, Construction Materials, Transportation Products, and General Industry. The company divested its data communications and electronic operations in the early 1990's. Besides the United States, Carlisle has offices in Europe, Asia, and Mexico. In 1998, the company's three operating segments have surpassed revenues of $1.5 Billion. Top competitors include: Wabash National, and Meritor.
