Integrated Power systems are the mainstay of C&D Technologies of Blue Bell, Pennsylvania. The company, founded in 1906 as C&D Electrical, was an ambitious extracurricular undertaking of two high school students, Frank Carlile and Leon Doughty, to wire homes for electrical lighting. During the Second World War, the company expanded into the manufacture of automobile batteries, and ultimately encompassed an extensive array of industrial power supplies. Through four major divisions, Powercom, Dynasty, Power Electronics, and Motive Power Division, C&D manufactures reserve power systems, office systems, high-frequency (switched) power supplies, and power supplies for industrial vehicles. C&D equipment won the GTE Quality of Excellence Award in 1997, and an Award of Merit from the National Safety Council.
