Currently the second largest manufacturer of athletic shoes in the United States, behind #1 Nike, Reebok International provides a wide-range of products and brands besides Reebok. Some of the other brands include Rockport, Greg Norman collection, and Ralph Lauren footwear. The Reebok product line meets the needs and desires of customers around the world. However, the customer is likely to change their preferences, therefore preferences and styles will be shifting rapidly. This uncertainty of preferences is what makes this industry high risk. Reebok projects that, within the next five years the consumer appeal of major retail chains will rise and fall faster than ever before which will cause consumer shopping habits to evolve. Unlike their competitors, Reebok is diversified providing protection against any changes in customer preferences. Reebok has limited their sponsorship of sports stars to very few, due to Nike being in favor of the new shoe technology, their revenues are mostly generated by the 180 Reebok retailers. In December 1998 sales growth was 11.5%. Competitors include: Adidas-Salomon, Fila, and Nike.
