Description: US Airways Group, a Delaware corporation, was formed in 1982, but its origins go back to the formation of All American Aviation in 1939. It's a holding company whose primary business is operating a major network air carrier through its wholly owned subsidiaries: US Airways, Piedmont Airlines Inc., PSA Airlines, Inc., Material Services Company, Inc. and Airways Assurance Limited. As of late 2008, the company offered passenger service to 200 communities in the United States, Canada, Europe, the Caribbean and Latin America. The mainline operation provided regular service or seasonal service at 135 airports. During the same time period, the US Airways Express network served 187 airports in the United States, Canada, and Latin America, including 77 airports also served by the mainline operation. As of December 31, 2008, US Airways Group owned 354 mainline jets and was supported by regional airline subsidiaries and affiliates operating as US Airways Express, which operated 238 regional jets and 74 turboprops.
