HECO and its operating utility subsidiaries, Hawaii Electric Light Company Inc. (HELCO) and Maui Electric Company Limited (MECO) provide electricity to the islands of Oahu, Hawaii, Maui, Lanai, and Molokai. Among subsidiaries of American Savings Bank in 2008, were Pacific Energy Conservation Services, Inc., HEI Properties, Inc., HEI Investments, Inc., and the Old Oahu Tug Service Inc. As of December, 2008, HECO owned and operated three generating plants on the island of Oahu, at Honolulu, Waiau and Kahe; HELCO owned and operated five generating plants on the island of Hawaii; and MECO owned and operated two generating plants on the island of Maui.
