Franchisees currently operate Gap and Banana Republic stores in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. The company acquired Banana Republic in 1983, adding it to its original Gap brand, which includes GapKids, launched in 1986; babyGap, launched in 1989; and GapBody, launched in 1998. Gap proceeded to launch the Old Navy brand in 1994.
