Turner & Son, Inc. The company changed its name to Dollar General Corporation in 1968 and reincorporated in 1998. It holds its headquarters in Goodlettsville, Tennessee. Dollar General is a discount retail store, offering a focused assortment of everyday items, including basic consumable merchandise and other home, apparel and seasonal products. It reports its merchandise in four segments -- highly consumable, seasonal, home products and basic clothing. As of 2008, the company operated 8,414 stores located in 35 states, primarily in the southern, southwestern, midwestern and eastern United States.
