Description: Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corporation was incorporated in the State of Delaware on December 1994, pursuant to a merger between Burlington Northern Inc. and Santa Fe Pacific Corporation, which occurred in December 1996. Also in December 1996, The Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway Company merged with and into Burlington Northern Railroad Company, and the company changed its name to The Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Company. In January 2005, The Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Railway Company changed its name to BNSF Railway Company, which is a holding company that conducts no operating activities and owns no significant assets other than through its interests in its subsidiaries.
