The flexible packaging segment manufactures food, consumer goods, and industrial packaging. The pressure-sensitive materials segment manufactures pressure-sensitive adhesive coated paper and film substrates sold to label markets, graphic markets, and technical markets. As of December, 2008, the flexible packaging segment had 50 manufacturing plants located in 13 states and 10 international countries, of which 45 are owned directly by the company or its subsidiaries and five are leased. The pressure-sensitive materials segment had seven manufacturing plants in three states and two international countries, all owned directly by the company or its subsidiaries. Bemis sells to customers throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, South America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. Its products are sold primarily in the food industry. Other customers include the following types of businesses: chemical, agribusiness, medical, pharmaceutical, personal care, electronics, automotive, construction, graphic industries, and other consumer goods.
