In 1982, KVH introduced the world's first commercial digital fluxgate compass. This technology was the basis for tactical navigation systems used in the Persian Gulf War. Since, they have expanded to include digital navigation systems, mobile satellite communication products and fiber optic gyros for commercial, military and marine markets globally. KVH sells it's sensors as integral components of navigational and satellite communication systems for marine and land applications in the commercial, military and OEM markets. They sell directly to the Department of Defense and to the armed forces of other countries in Europe and the Middle East. Further development of proprietary fiber optic technology is expected to enhance KVH's position in the military market with advanced tactical navigation systems. Recently, the company has improved land communications when they introduced a cost-effective antenna system that allows reception of television transmission. Housed in a state-of-the-art facility in Middletown, RI, KVH (NASDAQ: KVHI) boasts four facilities in Rhode Island, Illinois, Florida and Denmark.
