Williamson-Dickie is the largest workwear manufacturer in the world. Dickie workwear is sold in all 50 states and throughout the world in countries such as South Africa, Australia, Russia, Chile, Japan, Iceland, Canada, and Mexico. Their products are distributed worldwide through retailers and directly to businesses. Headquartered in Fort Worth, Texas, Williamson-Dickie has grown to include five distribution facilities, seven manufacturing plants and eight offshore manufacturing plants. In September 1999, it was announced that Williamson-Dickie products would also be available for purchase on Globalstore.com Inc internet site. C.N. Williamson and E.E. "Colonel" Dickie began their careers in the vehicle and harness business. In 1918, they founded the U.S. Overall Company specializing in bib overalls. In 1922, C. Don Williamson joined his father and cousin to form a partnership and renamed the company to Williamson-Dickie Manufacturing Co. Over the decades, they have grown from manufacturing bib overalls, to uniforms for the armed forces, to a civilian product line that includes staple work pants and work shirts, women's workwear, chore coats and denim jeans. When converting from products for the armed forces to civilian wear; the company began a strategy of geographical expansion and established new production facilities. In the late 1950's, Williamson-Dickie became an international company. With the exception of the great depression and World War II, Williamson-Dickie has experienced steady growth throughout the years. During just the past five years alone, sales have increased by 250 percent. A portion of this growth can be attributed to acquisitions, such as the one announced earlier this year when Williamson-Dickie acquired Workrite Uniform Co. Workrite is recognized for their flame-resistant safety uniform supply. Williamson-Dickie's top competitors include Carhartt, Levi-Strauss and VF.
