Although it was not known by the name, Sierra began in the late 1920's by R.H. "Curly" Emmerson with sawmills in California and Oregon. In 1969 the company became known as Sierra Pacific Industries. It is still owned and operated by the Emmerson family and is one of the nation's largest lumber companies. Operations now include, large and small logs, millwork, timberlands, windows, and by-products, to name a few. SPI has 16 branch locations in California, with over 3000 employees.
