Description: Founded by Sam Wornom and Truby Proctor in 1967, Pantry incorporated in Delaware and went public in June 1999 on the NASDAQ. As of 2008, Pantry had 1,650 convenience stores in operation across 11 states, including its headquarters based in Sanford, North Carolina. The company's stores are located in the Southeast near tourist attractions in the Carolinas, Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, Indiana, Georgia, Louisiana, Missouri and Alabama. Pantry convenience stores sell beverages, candy, gasoline, magazines and tobacco products and fuel accounted for the largest portion of revenue. The 1,119 fuel operations of the 1,650 stores were under the BP, CITGO, Chevron, Shell, Texaco or ExxonMobil brand names. Kangaroo Express, Pantry's primary operating banner, operated 237 quick service restaurants within 225 of its locations. In 156 of these quick service restaurants, nationally branded food franchises includes Subway, Quiznos , Hardee's , Krystal, Church's, Dairy Queen, Baskin-Robbins and Bojangles.
