Jones Apparel Group Inc. is a leader in the apparel and footwear industries. They design and market a broad array of products including sportswear, jeanswear, suits, dresses and menswear. The brands they offer are moderately to high-priced and include Jones New York, Jones & Co., Evan-Picone, Rena Rowan, and several brands licensed by Polo Ralph Lauren. Jones Apparel owns the trademark to Todd Oldham who designs clothing and fragrances. Their acquisition of Nine West has allowed Jones to expand their product line to include designer shoes such as Easy Spirit, Enzo Angiolini, Bandolino, and Amalfi. Jones Apparel Group was founded in 1970 by Sidney Kimmel as the Jones Apparel Division of W.R. Grace & Co. In 1975, Mr. Kimmel and a partner bought the company from Grace and incorporated it as Jones Apparel Group Inc. They spent the next ten years building their Jones New York brand as one of the finest names in women's apparel. Milestones for the Jones Apparel Group include the purchase of Even-Picone in 1993 and the licensing agreement reached with Polo Ralph Lauren in 1995. In 1998, Jones Apparel Group expanded their product line to include jeanswear, sportswear, and related apparel for men, women and children with the acquisition of Sun Apparel Inc. They were able to expand their product lines again in early 1999 when they purchased the worldwide rights to the Todd Oldham brand for apparel, footwear, cosmetics and accessories. Today, Jones Apparel Group has expanded their operations to include warehouses and offices in Canada, Mexico, New Jersey, Tennessee, Delaware, North Carolina, and Virginia with over 8,000 employees. Jones Apparel Group revenues more than doubled to $1.15 billion, bring their total revenues for the nine month period to $2.24 billion. These results include the acquisition of Nine West Group and Sun Apparel. Top competitors include Ann Taylor, Brown Shoe, and Ellen Tracy.
