Description: Ingles Markets Inc., a leading supermarket chain in the Southeast United States, was founded in 1963 by Robert P. Ingle. The company was incorporated in 1965 in North Carolina and began trading publicly in September 1987. Ingles operates three lines of business: retail grocery sales, shopping center rentals and a dairy processing plant. Ingles Markets operates 197 supermarkets in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and Alabama. Six of those supermarkets are under the name Sav-Mor. In 1982, the company purchased Milkco Inc., a milk processing and packaging plant, from Sealtest, which provides most of Ingles' fluid dairy needs. Milkco also sells to outside customers.
