No one knows why the founder of Fannie May Candie Shops chose that name. But in 1920, the Chicago based confectioner opened its first Fannie May Candie Shop. In 1994, The Archibald Candy Corporation, parent company of Fannie May, purchased Fanny Farmer Candies and became the largest retail candy chain in the U.S. There are 330 shops in 22 states from Maine to Florida and extending west to Missouri. The confectioner produces about 40 million pieces of candy each year, including hand dipped and cream filled chocolates, hard candies, fudge, mints and caramels. Customers can purchase an assortment of candies through the retail specialty shops, by ordering through the Fannie May online catalog, mail-order catalog, wholesale opportunities, or quantity order programs.
