Description: The predecessor of Del Monte Foods Company was originally incorporated in 1916, and was publically traded until its acquisition by RJR Nabisco Inc. in 1979. The current company was incorporated in Maryland in 1989. In February 1999, it again became a publicly traded company listed on the NYSE. A manufacturer of foods including Del Monte, StarKist, and Contadina brands, and pet products including Meow Mix and Milk-Bone brands, the Del Monte Foods Company primarily sells its goods in the US retail grocery market. As of April 27, 2008, their principal facilities consisted of 17 production facilities and 9 distribution centers in the United States, as well as operating facilities in American Samoa, Mexico and Venezuela. In 1997, the company acquired the rights to the Contadina brand from Nestle USA Inc. In 1998, it acquired the rights to the Del Monte brand in South America from Nabisco Inc., as well as Nabisco's processed vegetable and tomato business in Venezuela. In 2000, it acquired the rights to the SunFresh brand from UniMark Group Inc. and in 2001, the rights to the S&W brand.
