Description: CF Industries Holdings Inc. was founded in 1946 as a fertilizer brokerage operation by a group of regional agricultural cooperatives seeking to pool their purchasing power. In August 2005, CF Industries completed its initial public offering of common stock and its listing on the New York Stock Exchange. The company is one of the largest manufacturers and distributors of nitrogen and phosphate fertilizer products in North America with operations organized into two business segments: the nitrogen segment and the phosphate segment. The principal products in the nitrogen segment are ammonia, urea and urea ammonium nitrate solution. The principal products in the phosphate segment are diammonium phosphate, monoammonium phosphate and granular muriate of potash. During the 1960s, the company expanded distribution capabilities and diversified into fertilizer manufacturing through the acquisition of several existing plants and facilities. During the 1970s and again during the 1990s, CF Industries expanded production and distribution capabilities significantly as a traditional supply cooperative.
