Description: Albany International Corporation was founded in 1895 by three Albany businessmen. Originally, the Albany Felt Company, the name was changed to Albany International Corporation when the company merged with Appleton Wire Works, a U.S. company, and Nordiska Maskinfilt, a Scandinavian company. In the 1970s, Albany International expanded its overseas operations with the acquisition of paper machine clothing companies in England, Brazil and Norway. The company initially went public in 1972, but went private again with a leveraged buyout in 1983. In 1987, the company went public again and has been traded on the NYSE ever since. Albany International is the world's largest producer of custom-designed engineered fabrics and process belts, called paper-machine clothing (PMC). While PMC is their core business, a number of emerging business segments include: Albany Engineered Composites, Albany Door Systems, Albany Engineered Fabrics, PrimaLoft and Pyropel. Albany International's diverse businesses extend their textiles and materials capabilities into a variety of other industries, including aerospace composites, nonwovens, building products and high-performance industrial doors. The company is headquartered in Albany, New York and has 56 locations in 14 countries, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Germany, Sweden, Finland, South Africa, France, South Korea, Australia, England, Italy and China.
