ADE Corporation of Westwood, Massachusetts was founded in 1967 and went public in October of 1995. The firm, which employs 600 workers, develops precision automated metrology and inspection systems used in wafer manufacturing and in the manufacture of computer disk drives. ADE's presence in the wafer manufacturing industry is clearly visible in that 95 percent of polished wafers pass measurement at least one time on equipment from ADE Corporation. ADE Corporate trademarks include WaferCheck, MicroScan, UltraScan, and UltraGage. The UltraGage 9000 series is adapted to both wafer and drive manufacturing, and ADE manufactures apparatus for the disk drive industry additionally through two wholly owned subsidiaries: ADE Technologies Incorporated, and ADE Phase Shift.
