In 1957, the company became Boise Cascade Corporation. In 2003, Boise Cascade Corporation acquired OfficeMax, Inc. and adopted its currently name. The company is involved in business-to-business and retail office products distribution through its two business segments: OfficeMax, Contract and OfficeMax, Retail. The OfficeMax, Contract segment distributes a broad line of items for the office, including office supplies and paper, technology products and solutions and office furniture. This segment sells directly to large corporate and government offices, as well as to small and medium-sized offices in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand. As of January 2009, OfficeMax, Contract operated 47 distribution centers and six customer service and outbound telesales centers. OfficeMax, Contract also operated 60 office products stores in Canada, Hawaii, Australia and New Zealand. The OfficeMax, Retail segment distributes office supplies and paper, print and document services, technology products and solutions and office furniture through its stores. As of January 2009, this segment operated 1,024 stores in the U.S. and Mexico, three large distribution centers in the U.S. and two small distribution centers in Mexico.
