The field of globalization studies instigates stirring and complex debate about the local and global, backed by nearly 30 years of scholarship. Globalization refers to the process of growing amalgamation and interdependence of countries, cultures, and societies. The field principally concentrates on economics, politics, and culture, but little research examines globalization's effect on the most personal experiences and how these are imagined, surveilled, and performed.
