President Obama attempted to buy Republican support for his $819 billion economic stimulus plan by including a quarter trillion dollars in tax cuts. It didn't work: The stimulus proposal passed the House on Wednesday without a single Republican vote. As action shifts to the Senate, Obama and the Democrats should understand the position they are in. The stimulus plan will be theirs alone, with no sharing of credit or blame, so they might as well do what they think is right.
