Technology companies are resorting to layoffs and forming partnerships to survive a punishing economy that is turning competitors into bedfellows.

San Diego's tech sector lost 300 jobs in October, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

That's just the beginning of the downturn, industry observers say, and note that more layoffs have since been announced.
