MABC's Merit Awards and Safety Banquet offers recognition, relaxation.

The Mississippi Builders and Contractors' (MABC's) Merit and Safety Awards Banquet is always well attended, but this year's version took the prize. The banquet historically has averaged a crowd of approximately 400. This year's event drew nearly 600, according to MABC's president and CEO C.J. "Buddy" Edens Jr.

"The program turnout was outstanding," Edens said of the event that was held Nov. 7 at the Country Club of Jackson. "I was just thrilled by how the night went."

Awards rule the evening at the MABC's annual banquet, and it is the top attraction for attendees. However, the show offers more, not the least of which is a chance to mingle, share a laugh, a hug or a handshake.

"The program gives us a chance to talk about the ABC, our merit shop philosophy and what it stands for, and the outgoing chairman has the opportunity to address our group about what he sees for our future," Edens said. "More than that, it gives us a chance to relax, enjoy each other's company, share ideas."

The largest group in the national ABC organization, MABC's Merit and Safety Awards Banquet looks to recognize members' outstanding construction and construction-related work and those who maintained exceptional safety records. In addition, multiple individual awards are presented, and there is the ceremonial passing of the gavel to the incoming chairman.
