CORVALLIS - They'd been listening for a long while, and finally the Ducks answered. Oregon had just scored again, another long touchdown, when several players turned away from the action, looked into the crowd. They held up both hands, made the "O" sign.
Someone yelled: "This game is O - over! O - over!"
And someone else added: "What happened to the roses?"
The roses, as it turned out, were across the way, behind the Oregon State bench. The bouquet had been tossed from the Beavers' student section a couple of minutes earlier, after another Oregon score, and petals lay scattered everywhere.
Oregon 65, OSU 38 was about many things. Bragging rights. Finishing strong. Erasing a trend. Making a statement. All of that, sure.
