A law signed by Gov. Jennifer Granholm on March 4 clears the way for two northern Oakland County townships to lay the groundwork for a 440-acre tech park near I-75.

Public Act 17 of 2004 expands the Michigan Local Development Financing Act to allow townships within counties of 1 million or more to form local development finance authorities.

Townships also must have a master plan in effect and have written agreements.

Before Granholm signed the bill, Holly and Groveland townships didn't meet the requirements to form a joint authority because they didn't meet population criteria.
