UNIDENTIFIED SPEAKER: Okay, well, we'll finish up here for our morning session with a very interesting company in the biodefense space, a company called Emergent BioSolutions, listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Robert Kramer, the Chief Executive Officer, President of the Emergent BioDefense Operations in Lansing, will do the presentation for the Company.
ROBERT KRAMER, PRESIDENT, CEO, EMERGENT BIODEFENSE OPERATIONS, LANSING, EMERGENT BIOSOLUTIONS INC.: Thank you, [Mike]. Good morning, everybody. Thank you for joining us and for the opportunity, Mike, to present. I'll be making some forward-looking statements this morning as part of the presentation, so please refer to the Company's filings for any additional information.
What I would like to do this morning is give you a quick overview of Emergent BioSolutions, let you understand what we do, how we're different, how that translates into our product offering that's in our portfolio today, what corporate operations expertise we have to support the product development portfolio, what that means in terms of financial performance and then give you some thoughts on what you can expect from Emergent over the next one or two years.
So, to understand Emergent, I think you need to realize that we started the business roughly nine years ago with an initial acquisition of a biologics business that was formerly part of the state of Michigan. It was the Michigan Biologic Products Institute and what that initial investment or acquisition did for us was to give us three key assets.
One was a rich history, almost 75 years worth of product development expertise, commercialization and manufacturing. Second, it gave us a completely vertically integrated manufacturing facility in Lansing, Michigan, which we operate today. And third, [it] came with the acquisition which was a product by the name of BioThrax.
It's the only FDA licensed anthrax vaccine to protect against the deadly disease of anthrax, a product that under our stewardship has generated revenue in excess of $550 million over the last five years, and we expect that that trend will continue for the next five years.
So those three assets, development expertise, manufacturing -- integrated manufacturing capability and a revenue generating and profitable product, we use to deploy or to leverage that into a couple of different areas. We continue to focus on development, both of internally generated candidates as well as candidates that we've acquired over the last three years through a couple of strategic acquisitions.
Companies like Antex Biologics in June of '03, Microscience in June of '05 and ViVacs in June of '06 were acquisitions that we have made over the last three or four years. And then secondly, the capital that we have earned from the revenue generating product BioThrax has been invested in our manufacturing expertise and capability in support of the development portfolio.
Recent news, you may have seen some things about Emergent over the last 30 to 45 days and I'll briefly comment on a couple. First of all, we announced several weeks ago that we finalized a new contract with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for their purchase of almost 19 million doses of BioThrax.
It's...
