The Security Council today extended the mandate of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) until 31 March, in order to give the parties time to consider a proposal of the Secretary-General for a political solution.

Unanimously adopting resolution 1463 (2003), the Council approved the two-month technical rollover of the Mission to enable the parties to consider the proposal presented to them earlier this month by the Secretary-General's Personal Envoy, James Baker III.
