New bus route and buses debut Jan. 6.

Wenatchee and East Wenatchee bus riders will have more options when it comes to using Link Transit beginning Jan. 6.

Improved accessibility, more direct trips and faster service are all part of the new plan, according to Link Transit General Manager Richard DeRock.

The primary new service for Wenatchee and East Wenatchee is the Route 8, or what is called the "River Shuttle." Operated with two new low-floor buses, the River Shuttle will connect senior living facilities, schools, major employment and medical centers and shopping in Wenatchee, North Wenatchee, Olds Station and East Wenatchee.

Low-floor buses eliminate the steps necessary to enter a traditional bus, so passengers can easily and quickly enter and exit the vehicle. Wheelchair access is made possible by a small ramp that tilts out from the bus to bridge the gap between the sidewalk and...
