CORVALLIS - So many of the deplaning passengers were wearing orange and black - and also, really big smiles - that a flight attendant took a break from "buh-bye," to explain the situation.

"We're almost to the Rose Bowl," she told another flight attendant.

This was interesting enough, finding an Oregon State fan working the flight from Tucson. But it got better.

"We just have to beat the Ducks," she said. And she wasn't finished:

"Of course, that's my team. But that's OK."

The Civil War kicks off this afternoon, and if you're thinking the flight attendant cannot be a true fan of either program, you're probably right. But what her comments last Sunday afternoon illustrated is that the Beavers' run for the Rose Bowl has captivated a bunch of people.

Other than Penn State and a few other Big Ten teams, you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone cheering against OSU....
