Barbour trims budget, more cuts could follow.

Gov. Haley Barbour has already cut $42 million from the FY2009 budget because the state's revenue streams through the end of October fell short of estimates.

The good news is none of the state's agencies were cut enough--cuts maxed out at two percent--to force layoffs.

The bad news is the current budget could shrink again come January.

The deadline for corporations to pay their 2007 taxes was extended from Oct. 15 to Jan. 5 for those businesses affected by Hurricanes Gustav and Ike. Mississippi Commissioner of Revenue Joe Blount recently told the...
