A couple of weeks back, the folks at Fox 5 asked me on the 10 o'clock news to provide financial advice to their viewers.

It was right after the week that the Dow took its horrific dive.

Since that time, I have been giving more thought to what all of us should be doing in this period of financial uncertainty. And good grief, are the times uncertain.

We're leaving the era of easy credit, and headed toward a period of cash and carry. It requires a different mind-set.

So, here goes ... a few pieces of advice for those in business on how to survive the turmoil.

Rule No. 1: Live below your means, and save the difference...
