Microsoft files suit against four local companies: complaints allege software piracy.

Microsoft sued four San Diego area companies for alleged copyright infringement as part of crackdown last week by the software giant that filed 20 civil cases in nine states.

Microsoft typically files about 50 software piracy cases a year, says Microsoft attorney Sharon Cotes.

The complaints seek unspecified damages and attorney fees against the defendants who appear to be small, independent operators. At least two of them have only one employee.
