Article Excerpt I take this opportunity to express my special gratitude to my predecessor, the Rev. Jacques Matthey, who served as the IRM editor for the past nine years. Through Jacques' commitment and intellectual contribution to the ecumenical understanding of mission, the International Review of Mission has successfully stimulated ecumenical debate on mission. However, it is far too early for me to bid him farewell because his long journey within the history of ecumenical missiology is not yet finished. Jacques will continue to be with us, though with different responsibilities, as the director for the programme area on Unity, Mission, Evangelism and Spirituality within the World Council of Churches (WCC).
In this, my first editorial, I also wish to remember the "cloud of witnesses" who contributed in making IRM what it is today. I have in mind the fourteen former editors who served since the first publication came out in 1912. I have in mind such individuals as Joseph Oldham, Lesslie Newbigin, Philip Potter, Emilio Castro and Christopher Duraisingh, among others. They have enriched our thinking and practice on ecumenical mission with their gifted insights and lifelong commitment to the ecumenical movement. It is my honour and privilege to serve this historic journal as the new editor.
