Most of the 16 girls that Robin Dawn Ryan wanted to use in an upcoming competition routine could do a penche well, so she planned a special section that would include a penche or two. One student, however, kept falling whenever she tried the choreography. Dawn, owner of Robin Dawn Academy of Performing Arts in Cape Coral, FL, reluctantly decided not to include her in the section. However, she made clear that she was ready to change her decision if the girl improved. "I told her to keep working," Dawn says. "Now, at every practice, when the other girls do the penche, she's practicing it, too." And while the student has yet to perfect the difficult move, it's getting much better.
