When people see the tattoos, black clothes and long hair, they often assume Lyckwyd is a screamo or hard metal band.

Not really. Lyckwyd is a progressive metal band with vocals that members describe as Rob Zombie meets Black Sabbath, and a musical style a news release pegs as Staind meets Anthrax.

The black wig on lead singer Todd Anson is genre-appropriate for the stage show. But after six years making music under the Lyckwyd name, people still approach the band to express surprise that they can hear the words.

"We write songs that are good," said Anson, who in contrast to his aggressive stage persona is rather shy in person. "Our songs don't suck. That's our bottom line."

A dedication to their craft - members have more than three decades of combined songwriting experience and a commitment to professionalism - has led to a rapid acceleration of success for the band in recent months.
