Springfield last Wednesday dedicated its newest public building to the memory of Edward Harms Jr.

The building is the three-story, $28 million Justice Center. It houses the police department, the municipal court and, eventually, a city jail.

Over the course of a busy civic life, Harms served as a City Council member, mayor and city attorney. He died in 2005 at age 81.

An overflow crowd of more than 100 attended the simple but meaningful 20-minute ceremony in the lobby of the Justice Center.
